Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is ketamine therapy?

Ketamine is a medication originally used in anesthesia that has been shown to help with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and certain chronic pain conditions. At low doses, it works differently than standard antidepressants by promoting new brain connections and improving mood regulation.

2. Who is a good candidate for ketamine therapy?

Ketamine may be an option if you’ve tried traditional medications or therapies without success. Before starting, we complete a thorough medical and psychiatric evaluation to ensure safety and appropriateness.

3. How quickly will I feel results?

Some patients notice changes within hours to days after treatment, while others may need a full series of infusions. Results vary, but many people experience improved mood, energy, and clarity after just a few sessions.

4. Is ketamine therapy safe?

Yes. Ketamine has been safely used in medical settings for decades. When delivered at low doses in a monitored environment, side effects are generally mild and temporary (such as dizziness, nausea, or mild dissociation).

5. What happens during an infusion?

You’ll relax in a comfortable setting while ketamine is administered intravenously over 45 minutes with post-monitoring for 15-20 minutes. A provider monitors your vital signs and experience throughout the session. Most patients describe a calming, dreamlike state.

6. How many treatments will I need?

Most patients start with a series of 6 infusions over 4 weeks, followed by (monthly) booster treatments as needed. Your provider will create a plan based on your response and goals.

7. Will insurance cover this?

At this time, most insurance companies do not cover ketamine therapy for mental health. We can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement if applicable, and we also offer flexible payment options.

8. Are there risks or side effects?

Possible side effects include nausea, dizziness, increased blood pressure, or mild dissociation during treatment. These usually resolve quickly after the infusion. Our team carefully monitors you to ensure your safety.

9. Can I drive after treatment?

No. Because ketamine can temporarily affect coordination and perception, you’ll need a trusted friend or family member to drive you home after your session.

10. How do I get started?

You can schedule a consultation through our website or by phone. We’ll review your history, answer your questions, and create a personalized treatment plan if ketamine therapy is right for you.
